Football double touch

In football, a "double touch" refers to a situation where a player touches the ball twice consecutively during a set-piece, such as a penalty kick, before another player or the goalkeeper makes contact. According to the Laws of the Game, this is considered an infringement. If it happens during a penalty, the goal is disallowed, and an indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team.

A recent example of this occurred during a Champions League match where Julián Álvarez slipped while taking a penalty, unintentionally touching the ball with his standing foot before striking it with his kicking foot. The goal was disallowed after a VAR review, sparking debates about the fairness of the rule
